**35 years old + programmer + unemployed **, it is difficult for the three words to not give people the feeling of a title party, but this article is not the case.
I am a. NET programmer with 15 years of working experience. I have a slight understanding of some front-end technologies. I have just crossed the 35-year-old threshold. Unfortunately, I was unemployed some time ago, so the author simply practiced and shared his unemployment experience and current thoughts.
Before the age of 33-Pursuing a balance between life and work, which is good
I started working in 2008 and mainly did some information management system development in the past few years. The golden decade of the Internet began around 11/12, but this wave of dividends had little to do with me, because at this time I chose to go to the factory to embrace Industry 4.0.
Before I was 33, I blindly pursued a balance between work and life. Foreign companies, 855, weekend breaks, Party A, and humanization are the most important indicators for me when looking for a job.
By joining the game earlier, I had my own house and car, even though the house was not big and the car was not expensive. The job is stable and free, and the company in which many job seekers dream of, even though the salary is not high.
Based on these, I have always maintained a balance between my life and work. Work is challenging but within my ability. After work, you can completely return to your family and yourself. Although I occasionally worry about the future, I feel that I am still far away from me. It is good now.
33-The balance is broken, the pressure of reality
China's post-70s and post-80s have stepped on the dividends of real estate in the era. They may be forced to get married, or they may be following the trend to invest, but buying a house before will make you profit. The same was true for the author. The price of the first suite I bought increased fivefold, and then followed suit and invested in the suite, which doubled two years later. In order to obtain a greater return, I decided to sell the set I invested in and exchange for a larger and better position, but unfortunately I bought it at the highest point (before the COVID-19 epidemic). The sudden extra 1.5W+ mortgage loan made it difficult for my salary to cover the mortgage and monthly living expenses.
The company organized a lottery to answer questions on the 1024 Programmer's Day, and the question I happened to draw was my opinion on the way out for a 35-year-old programmer. I said a few perfunctory words on the surface, but at this moment, I am tossing and turning inside. Because the balance I had maintained for a long time was broken. After trying to develop and self-operate Weixin Mini Programs for a period of time without success, I updated my resume and began to test the free market. Riding a donkey and looking for a horse has relatively large negotiating capital, and I also happened to win an Offer whose salary more than doubled.
35-year-old-thought the transformation was successful but was unemployed
In the new company, I became a middle manager, leading a department responsible for the research and development of a new business. I am full of ambition, thinking that my transformation has been successful, and fantasizing that I will lead this business to success and make a lot of money for the company, become a vice president or have the opportunity to be in charge of a branch alone in the future.
However, reality is reality. The product was successfully developed, but I couldn't do anything about the market. At the same time, the lack of upward reporting and sales persuasion makes the boss and sales team have a skeptical attitude towards the product. As the first person responsible for the delay in generating profits, I have had a good idea: whether to find a way out in advance, or to continue to persist as long as the boss insists.
One afternoon, I was still updating the Nth version of the product roadshow PPT when the boss called and calmly told me that the company had decided to cancel this part of the business and the team was disbanded. So I was unemployed for the first time.
Now-depressed markets and re-employment
Some people say: Today's children are as mature as adults, while adults are as childish as children (lack financial independence and cannot take responsibility). And I, 35 years old, often think I am still the same boy I was. Then the age of 35 arrived quietly like this. It feels like an hour hand on a clock. It always feels like it is still far away, but this day will always arrive. However, it does not stop at all. It will not stop for you to rest and breathe and look back, and it still continues to move forward.
I understand the current general environment. The macro economy is depressed, the Internet is depressed, and industrial manufacturing is also depressed. I know myself. I am lacking in management skills and have few pits in high-end positions. It is difficult to match pure development salaries and the future is unclear. There will be age discrimination. I know it will be difficult for me to find a job right now.
I opened the recruitment website trembling and discovered several changes in the market based on my job search intentions:
- There are more desktop application development (WinForm, WPF) positions that were originally unpopular with developers (because they are disconnected from the Internet and have old technology), and the salaries are good, making them more suitable for developers aged 1 to 5 years.
- Most of the platform-based systems are Java, and several companies that used the. Net technology stack have been completely replaced with Java. The requirements of. Net can only be seen in MES and other systems in some factories.
- Ordinary factories have fewer positions or fewer appointment opportunities. The more active industries are chip manufacturing, new energy batteries and other industries, with strong demand.
- The number of foreign companies has been frozen or reduced, and hard standards are also being raised, such as direct requirements for overseas study experience.
In two weeks, I submitted nearly 100 positions on BOSS and 51JOB, and about half of them were checked. I communicated with 7 or 8 companies by phone, and made appointments with 4 or 5 companies. Finally, I got 2 offers. They were all related to architecture and platform transformation, but some compromises were also made in terms of salary.
What was quite unexpected was that I received an appointment from Microsoft, but due to insufficient preparation of the algorithm, it was quickly cancelled.
Future-some thoughts
The only constant is change. Learn to walk on multiple legs.
Economic cycles are changing, and industries and technologies are also changing. It has only been 20 years since the wave of layoffs of millions of workers in Northeast China, and it is difficult to recreate the golden age of the Internet. If you cannot predict and follow up with the wheel of the times, you must learn a variety of ways to make a living. Whether it is technology or management, whether it is a large factory or a small company, you must avoid narrowing your own future path and find your own second career.
Learn when you are confused, and you will one day be rewarded
If you go to school or learn English hard from now on, you will have twice the chance of job seekers who don't speak English. If you didn't seriously study algorithms that seemed useless at the time when you were in school, you wouldn't have much chance to enter a big factory in the future. Some learning that may not seem useful in the short term will eventually pay off later. Moreover, after working, you will find that learning is actually the easiest thing.
I currently don't have a second career, and it is difficult for me to persist in learning and feel that my personal strength is insignificant in the face of the times.
